Hi. I’m George Rogers,
The purpose of this blog is to provide a forum for parents, educators, and others to share experiences and ideas with respect to the 5 Dangerous Trends Threatening Public Education.
We are interested in knowing how these trends have affected you personally and your thoughts on what might be done to mitigate and eliminate the negative effects of these trends on children and on our system of public education.
I confess that as I initially contemplated these challenges, I was nearly overcome with a spirit of despair. Fortunately, it dissipated when I realized that while it was not within my power to solve these problems, it is within our collective power.
These are man made problems and the solutions will come from ordinary mortals working together in a spirit of cooperation and good will. The key is in acknowledging the problems exist and wanting to solve them.
But this conversation is about more than just talking, it is also about doing. We want to understand the nature of the problem, the causes, the effects and the extent. Then, we want to know what each of us can do. What can you tell us? We would like to know.
The important thing to remember in this conversation is civility and understanding. Most people mean well, and while we may disagree from time to time, the truth is more easily arrived at by calmly discussing than by heated debate.
